Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has described the high inflation as a great burden for many people. "Many are worried about how they will cope with the rising cost of living, how they will pay for gas and electricity, how they will feed their families," Steinmeier said in his speech on the occasion of the Day of German Unity.
Söder does not want to commit himself
Söder avoided a clear commitment to a candidacy for chancellor in autumn 2023. "In the end, there will be a candidate who has the greatest chance of winning," said Söder. The 55-year-old politician is considered a possible successor to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).
